The First 40 Days in Ministry

Black-and-white cinematic image of a man standing in waist-deep ocean water baptizing another man, gently holding him as he is lowered into the water. Day 26 – Stepping Into the Calling

April 26, 2026 — Sunday

It was a full day.

Fast-paced.
Non-stop.
Constant movement.

From the moment I walked in…

I wasn’t observing anymore.
I was leading.

When Leadership Gets Real

We were short-handed.

Production needed help.
Cameras weren’t covered.

Before service even started…

I had to make decisions.

Fill roles.
Move people.
Adjust on the fly.

No Time to Think, Just Lead

Then right after:

  • Gave a tour to new greeters

  • Onboarded a new team lead

  • Cast vision for the café team

It was constant.

One thing after another.

What I Realized in That Moment

There’s a difference between:

Knowing leadership…
and being in it.

And yesterday, I was in it.

But That Wasn’t the Moment That Stood Out

That came later.

At the beach.

The First Time

We held baptisms in the water.

Right there in the Gulf.

Hundreds of people.

Worship.
Celebration.
New beginnings.

And Then It Hit Me

This was my first time baptizing.

Not attending.
Not watching.

Participating.

What I Felt

At first…

A little uncertainty.

I didn’t know what to expect.

But that didn’t last long.

What Took Over

A sense of honor.

Because I realized:

I wasn’t just performing an action…
I was part of someone’s beginning.

The Weight of That Moment

Each person stepping into the water…

Had a story.

Brokenness.
Searching.
A turning point.

And for that moment…

God allowed me to stand in that gap.

What Baptism Really Is

It’s not the finish line.

It’s the starting line.

The Reminder I Kept Coming Back To

“Take up your cross daily…” Luke 9:23

Not once.

Daily.

Because This Is Where People Miss It

They think:

  • Baptism = done

  • Decision = complete

  • Moment = enough

But it’s not.

What It Actually Requires

Consistency.
Commitment.
Daily surrender.

The Picture That Came to Mind

The Israelites.

Wandering for 40 years.

When the destination…

Was only days away.

Why That Happens

Not because of distance.

But because of:

Doubt.
Disobedience.
Lack of trust.

My Prayer in That Moment

For every person I baptized:

Don’t stop here.

Let this be the beginning.

Not the highlight.

Because This Is the Real Journey

Following God isn’t an event.

It’s a daily decision.

Closing Thought

Yesterday, something shifted.

Not just in what I did…

But in how I see it.

I’m not just part of ministry anymore…
I’m part of people’s transformation.
